Clay Cansler

Clay Cansler comes to join the Wagner team with over 20 years special education teaching experience. He began his teaching career working as a houseparent at Texas School for the Deaf whereas he says, he discovered his gift. Clay has taught Life Skills, Autism/Communication, Medically Fragile and Adaptive PE classes. Clay has heart for students with special needs and abilities which shows in both his extensive teaching experience and his 10+ years of coaching Special Olympics.

Mr. Cansler has a Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Special Education, and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Texas State University. He appreciates the collaboration and community/inclusion opportunities for himself and his students at Wagner. He believes that no student is too anything to not be able to read and write... find a way and make a way! Above all, he wants his students to feel safe, feel important, be accepted, learn by doing, focus on abilities, and experience happiness.

When not working in his yard and garden, Clay enjoys his friends, family, live music, camping, kayaking and fishing. Clay has 3 children, Travis 30, Johnathen 19, and Hannah 10.
