Nicole Akers
Nicole Akers has been in education for several years, but most recently served an ELAR teacher this past school year. Ms. Akers began as a long-term substitute and then became an ELAR teacher. This year, Nicole looks forward to being a dedicated 8th grade ELAR teacher this year and marrying Social Studies into the Language Arts curriculum. Ms. Akers has a Bachelor's of Science from Indiana State University.
Nicole is excited to collaborate with the Social Studies teachers to bring Language Arts to life in a new way. Having had the same experience herself, she knows it is much more exciting to bring these content areas together to solidify the 'why they matter' for students. Additionally, the secret is out: someone told her there's a therapy bunny on campus that she can't wait to meet and fluff.
When Nicole is not teaching she's likely thinking about the next lesson and how to improve its presentation for high engagement. When her nose isn't stuck in a book, you might find her hiking, doing puzzles, engaging in writing of her own, or spending quality family time. Nicole is married to Clay, and is a mother of two wonderful daughters and one fantastic dog.
Nicole thinks life is better with a little spice. She encourages you to add a drop or two of Tabasco to just about everything like she does. And, if spice isn't quite your thing, perhaps some dark chocolate with high cacao content is. One small piece of chocolate after her daily salad for lunch is her personal recipe to keep the doctor away.
